Religious Education For Children

At St. Germaine, our RE program is community-centered and sacramentally focused. Students learn firstly at the Mass followed immediately by class with their peers on Saturday Mornings. Parents and guardians should expect to reinforce concepts learned in the classroom, in their own homes. This shared journey helps families grow together in understanding and commitment to the Catholic faith.

This ministry welcomes:

  • Those baptized in another Christian denomination

  • Those baptized Catholic but who have not received formal religious instruction or the remaining Sacraments of Initiation (First Communion and/or Confirmation)

Our Religious Education For Children Sacrament-Prep program is designed for young people, 2nd Grade-High School, who are seeking to prepare to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion.

We have classes available for K-1st Grades, enroll them early and sacramental preperation will be more fulfilling. Room is also available for children who have already received their Sacraments. We never stop growing with Him!

Religious Education For Teens - Youth Ministry

The Catholic Youth Group of Saint Germaine Parish, known as Veritas, operates on a comprehensive four-year curriculum designed to engage both Middle and High School teens (6-12th graders) in their faith journey. This curriculum is structured around key themes such as morality, scripture, church history, sacraments, and the liturgical calendar and traditions. Each year builds upon the previous one, ensuring that participants develop a deeper understanding of their faith while fostering a strong sense of community. The program is designed to be interactive and dynamic, incorporating various teaching methods to cater to different learning styles.

Curriculum Series: Lifeteen (check them out), Quick Catholic Lessons with Fr. Mike Schmitz (Ascension Press), The Bible Project (YouTube), Called to be Catholic (Loyola Press)

In addition to the core curriculum, Veritas emphasizes the importance of practical application through service projects, retreats, worship nights, and fundraisers. These extracurricular activities not only enhance the learning experience but also encourage teens to live out their faith in tangible ways. By participating in these events, youth members develop leadership skills, build lasting friendships, and grow in their relationship with God. The following details in this manual regarding Veritas are a resource to effectively implement and support the program, ensuring a vibrant and enriching experience for all participants.

Religious Education For Adults - OCIA & OCIC

Religious Education for Adults at St. Germaine incorporates the Catholic Church's 'OCIA' as well as the 'OCIC' programs which allows all persons over the age of 7 to receive the sacrament of baptism at the Easter Vigil. Persons over the age of 18 are eligible to receive Baptism, Confirmation and Communion at the Easter Vigil. This department is administered and taught by Deacon Dale Avery on Tuesday nights in Reiser Hall from September through Easter.

This ministry welcomes:

  • Un-baptized persons over the age of 7.
  • Those who have not received sacraments over the age of 18.
  • Those who would like to audit and learn more about the Catholic Faith.

Children over the age of 7, who complete the OCIC program and receive baptism, will then need to enroll in the Religious Education Classes for Children the following year with Catalina Solorzano. Adults over the age of 18 will receive a completion of their sacraments needed in order to come into full communion with the Catholic Church.
